Ray ban sunglasses repair

Sunglasses are one of our favorite accessories these days; in fact, sunglasses create more than $34 billion of revenue per year. We wear them everywhere at any time (even in some cases at night), and people of all ages use them to protect their eyes and make a fashion statement. Though they seem like just another designer item or health precaution, here are some of the weirdest things you probably didn’t know about sunglasses.

They are not a new accessory
Sunglasses are everywhere these days, adoring the faces of celebrities, athletes, and us normal folk, but they are nowhere near a new accessory. The very first sunglasses ever used were invented in China as early as the 12th century, and they were a fay cry from what we wear today. They weren’t bedazzled and were not worn to block out harmful UV rays. These primitive sunglasses were made from pieces of smoky quartz, and only protected the eyes from the glare of the sun.

Nero was a fan of them
The Chinese were not the only ones to take advantage of what putting weird things in front of their eyes. Roman emperor Nero was also a fan of wearing sunglasses. When he was not otherwise engaged fiddling while Rome burned, Nero enjoyed watching gladiator fights wearing polished gems to manipulate the color and distortion of what he was seeing.

So is Elton John
Nero was clearly a fan of wearing sunglasses, but so is one of our favorite pop stars. Sir Elton John is rumored to own over 1,000 pairs of sunglasses. These probably serve a dual purpose for him. The first is to look really cool, and the second is to block out all of the lights from paparazzi cameras. Have you ever seen a picture of Elton John without sunglasses?

Though sunglasses are worn by many and have been around for centuries, they are still pretty fragile and can be broken or scratched easily. One of the most common needs is replacement lenses. If you don’t know how to replace sunglass lenses, don’t fret. There are plenty of types of sunglass replacement lenses out there, though they might not be made of gems or smoky quartz (which is probably a good thing).
